Abstract
One of the most important human endeavors in the last century has been the effort to design, implement, and apply as well as possible a set of legal, political, and economic laws and rules with the aim of protecting the environment. Among these, an issue that is capable of serious discussion and examination from a customary and legal perspective is the principle of interaction centered on environmental protection. Accordingly, the purpose of the present study is to apply the cooperation paradigm with an emphasis on environmental protection in international law from the perspectives of binding and non-binding sources. The main question of the present study is: "What has been the most important function of the principle of international cooperation in the issue of environmental protection been based on?" The research hypothesis implies that the issue of environmental protection with an emphasis on the principle of cooperation can be examined from the perspectives of binding and non-binding legal sources. The findings of the research, using a descriptive-analytical method and examining international legal and environmental documents, showed that each of the binding and non-binding sources has different dimensions and angles in order to better realize the principle of interaction and cooperation in international law with the aim of protecting the environment, and the application of each has been able to achieve part of the important concern of environmental protection.
